Peterborough Police Service briefs Friday, Aug. 26:
BEAR SPRAY ASSAULT
A 19-year-old Peterborough man is facing weapons charges after assaulting a group with bear spray on Thursday afternoon.
Around 2:30 p.m. a verbal altercation took place between two males and a group of males in the area of Wolfe and Rubidge Streets. The parties involved know each other, police say.
During the incident four people were sprayed with bear spray.
A short time later police located one of the accused at a Wolfe Street address. During the arrest a weapon (knife) was located on the accused.
Peter Michael Pople, 19, of Towerhill Road, is charged with the following:
• Assault with a weapon (bear spray)
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (bear spray)
• Carrying concealed weapon (knife)
• Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (knife)
• Failing to comply with a probation order
He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
The investigation continues.
On Thursday, officers were dispatched to a Rubidge Street residence after three people (two adult males and an adult female) claimed they had been assaulted by a man known to them.
The male had then fled the area on a bicycle.
Shortly after midnight, police located the suspect a Chamberlain Street address.
Charles Vella, 34, of Chamberlain Street, is charged with three counts of assault. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT ARREST
On Thursday night police attended a Peterborough residence for an assault. It was reported that the accused, a 45-year-old woman, had assaulted the victim, a woman in her 30s, who is now in a relationship with the accused’s ex-partner.
As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with assault. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
