Body of swimmer recovered from Trudeau’s Park in Tweed

TWEED – A body has been recovered after a swimmer was reported missing at Trudeau’s Park on Sunday night.

Central Hastings OPP responded around 10:30 p.m. after being contacted about a missing swimmer from the Garden of Eden festival being held at the park.

Police were informed that around 4 p.m. numerous swimmers were at the beach shortly before it was closed due to an incoming thunderstorm. However, one man swimming with friends was approximately 20 feet from shore when he went under the water and never resurfaced, OPP state.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit searched Stoco Lake and eventually recovered the body of a 21-year-old man. The coroner attended the scene and pronounced the man deceased.

He has been identified as Saad Salman of Mississauga.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Aug. 30.
