Layoffs in the manufacturing sector… It’s becoming the norm across the province…
But a Cobourg plant is bucking that trend.
And is hiring nearly 50 more people.
Mark Giunta reports.
It’s been a part of Cobourg for nearly 45 years…
And now Horizon Plastics is expanding…
Ken Brownlee – president, Horizon Plastics
“Our business is growing, particularly within our customer base. Because of that, we’re looking to bring on 40 more positions…”
Those positions are full-time…
There will also be some part-time hiring as well…
“We’re looking for salary staff in the way of quality. We’re looking for hourly staff in the way of operators, for our machines and processing. We’re looking for part-time people for some assembly.”
Right now, around 200 people work at the plant… which is located in Cobourg’s Northam Industrial Park.
Officials say this latest hiring blitz shows the plant, which does low pressure injection molding, is staying put long-term.
“Cobourg is extremely important to our company given the amount of time here. We continue to invest in the company. We have purchased equipment over the years. We have invested in secondary assembly and process equipment. We’re looking to be in Cobourg for a very long time.”
A career fair will be held at Horizon Plastics next Tuesday from 3-to-7 PM.
Interested applicants can show up with resume in hand or go online to Horizon Plastics dot com.
