Woman’s relationship with teen leads to sex assault, child porn charges

A Peterborough woman is accused of sexually assaulting and possession child pornography following an investigation a teenage male.

In late August police received information that the 36-year-old was involved in a month-long relationship with a 14-year-old whom she knows.

As a result of the investigation,  on Sept. 6, police attended the woman’s residence where she was placed under arrest. She was charged with the following:

• Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
• Sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age
• Make sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 years of age
• Possession of child pornography

She was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Sept. 7). Her name will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.


Second arrest in bear spray attack
A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a late August incident involving bear spray.

On August 25, at approximately 2:30 p.m. a verbal altercation took place between two males and a group of males in the area of Wolfe and Rubidge Streets. The parties involved know each other.

During the incident four of them were sprayed with bear spray. Police were contacted and officers were dispatched to the area.

A short time later police located one of the accused at a Wolfe Street address. As a result of the investigation a 19-year-old male was initially arrested and charged with various weapons offences.

Through further investigation the second male suspect was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On September 6, he turned himself in at the Simcoe Street courthouse.

Jack Robert Monine, 21, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested based on the warrant and charged with the following:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Assault with a weapon X4
• Failing to comply with a probation order X2

He was held in custody and appeared in court on Sept. 6.
