Moped rider found in ditch charged with impaired driving

SELWYN TOWNSHIP – A woman riding moped is facing impaired driving charges following a minor crash on Tuesday evening.

OPP responded to Curve Lake Road around 6 p.m. after witnesses found a woman on her moped in a ditch and tried to assist her. Police say the witnesses determined she had been drinking alcohol and prevented her from driving any further and called police.

Heather Rankin, 51, of the City of Kawartha Lakes was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on Oct. 6.
