Six arrested following raid of marijuana grow-op in Apsley area

North Kawartha Township – Six people are facing drug-trafficking charges after Peterborough County OPP raided an outdoor marijuana grow operation in the Apsley area on Tuesday.

OPP’s Central Region Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at a property on County Rd. 620.

Officers seized a large quantity of marijuana in various stages of production valued at $1.28 million. Three vehicles and a farm tractor were also seized.

Charged with production of marijuana and possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking were:

– Wei Kuan Lee, 55,  of Toronto

– Man Dick Yu, 28, of Hong Kong, China

– Ying Hua Yu, 50, of Toronto

– Hui Ren, 44, (female) of Newmarket

– Kin Keun Wong, 28, of Hong Kong, China

– Lawrence Young, 56, of Newmarket

Young also faces an additional charge of theft of electricity.

All accused persons will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario today (Sept. 7) for a show cause hearing.

Investigators with DEU were assisted by OPP members of the Tactic and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT).
