Assaults, break-ins, domestic incidents keep Peterborough police busy over weekend

Assault with a Weapon Arrest

Police say they were called to a Peterborough home Sunday regarding a disturbance involving a 25-year-old man and another in his late 20s. Police say the second man is now in a relationship with the accused’s ex-partner.

The two men reportedly starting physically fighting and it’s alleged that one hit the other with a collapsible baton.

The 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a weapon. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 20.

Due to the domestic nature of this incident the name of the accused will not be released.

 

Assault/Break and Enter Arrest

A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing assault and break-and-enter charges following a Saturday night incident.

At approximately 9 p.m., police say someone broke into to a Peterborough home while the residents were home. A fight reportedly ensued, and police say the accused and the residents of the home know one other. Once police were called, officers employed the K9 Unit to locate a suspect.

Andrew John Schmutzer, 32, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault, break and enter and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was held in custody, appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday Court on September 25, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court on September 28 via video appearance.

 

Break and Enter Arrest

Sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 23, a break-and-enter occurred at a unit inside a Parkhill Road West multi-unit residence. Police say the unit was damaged.

Officers arrested Darren Michael English, 28, of Chamberlaiin Street at a Talwood Drive residence later that day. He is charged with break and enter and mischief under $5,000 and was held in custody, appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday Court on September 25, 2016, was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear again in court later Monday.

 

Domestic Assault Arrest:

The accused, a 38-year-old man, and the victim, a woman in her late 40’s, are in a domestic relationship. On September 23, 2016 the accused and victim allegedly became involved in an argument at a Peterborough residence. During the argument it was reported that the accused assaulted the victim.

A concerned citizen called police to report the incident and officers attended. During the investigation it was reported that two other incidents had recently taken place during which the victim had been assaulted by the accused.  The 38-year-old man was charged with three counts of assault, and mischief under $5,000. He was held in custody, appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday Court, was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear again in courtMonday.
The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.
