Millbrook woman charged with stealing identity in a cross-border investigation

A 27-year-old Millbrook woman has been charged with identity theft following a cross border investigation.  
Police say a woman in her 20s contacted Peterborough police in April 2016 after several pieces of her identification had been stolen.
In August, the woman further reported that several bank accounts had been opened in her name, loans had been applied for, and a vehicle had been purchased.
The victim said she knew the thief, but that the thief had fled to Kansas. Police worked with the Lawrence Police Department in Kansas to locate a suspect.
On September 15, 2016 the accused was apprehended in Lawrence, Kansas. She was returned to Canada on September 22, 2016.  The total fraud is estimated at $75,000.
As a result of the investigation Sarah Elaine Tomaszewski, 27, of Millbrook, was charged with the following:
·         Identity theft
·         Fraud over $5,000 X2
·         Personation with intent X2
The accused appeared in a Peterborough Court and was later released on bail. The accused is scheduled to appear again in court on October 13, 2016.
The investigation continues.
