A crossing guard hit by a lumber truck while crossing the street on her way to her shift Thursday morning in Cobourg has died.
It happened around 8 a.m. on Elizabeth Street just west of the intersection at Burnham Street.
Witnesses say the woman, identified on GoFundMe as Nicole Leblanc, had just parked her vehicle on Elizabeth Street and was crossing the road. The fully-loaded truck was backing up when it hit her.
She was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries and later died.
The driver was taken to hospital suffering from shock. Police are appealing for witnesses.
A Go Fund Me Account has been set up to support her family. It raised almost half its $10K goal in less than a day.
