The Mount Community Centre received a financial boost this morning to support its new Food Business Innovation Centre.
Kathy Macpherson with the Greenbelt fund announced $58,000 through the Local Food Investment.
The Centre will be part of the Mount’s project to provide access to commercial kitchen space, on-site packaging and labelling facilities for those starting up a food business.
The former convent on Monaghan Road is currently being renovated for more than 40 apartments.
Renovations are currently underway in the covent’s former kitchen… which will offer more than 3,000 square feet of space along with two walk-in freezers. Mount officials including board vice-president John Martyn say the the food project will create local jobs and support the agricultural community.
