After a funding announcement at Trent University today, Peterborough-Kawartha MP and Minister of Democratic Institutions Maryam Monsef was approached by reporters to answer questions regarding her citizenship.
Reporter: “Are you or your family under investigation?”
Monsef: “This is a very personal matter for my family and I. I assure you that the work that needs to be worked on, we are working on. Thank you very much.”
Monsef immediately left the university following the reporter scrum.
Last month, a Globe and Mail report revealed Monsef was actually born in Iran instead of Afghanistan.
Monsef insists she only found out about this following inquiries by the Globe and Mail reporter.
There have been calls from an opposition member for Monsef to resign.
