Laundry-room thief caught in the act

On October 12, 2016 a complainant reported an incident at a Ford Street multi-unit apartment complex where a male suspect had damaged the coin box to a washing machine and dryer.

Police were then dispatched to the same location the following day, to investigate a disturbance. It was reported that tenants in the building were detaining a male after he had been located in the laundry room attempting to steal coins and items belonging to the residents.

James Myles Stokes, 32, of Parkhill Road West, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Break and enter X 2
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Failing to comply with a probation order X 2



Sometime between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on October 13, unknown person(s) broke into the Peterborough Marina office and stole an amount of cash from the cash register.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 6 feet tall and around 40 years old. He was wearing an orange T-shirt, grey pants and a grey hat.

A 15-year-old Peterborough teen has been charged with assault following an incident at a Peterborough residence.

On October 13, police were dispatched to a multi-unit residence for an assault. It was reported that the 15-year-old accused who lives at the residence assaulted another tenant by spitting at him.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.


A 22-year-old man has been charged for harassing a former girlfriend.

Police say the man and the victim, a woman in her early 20s, were in a previous domestic relationship. In August and September 2016 it was reported that the accused had been making numerous unwanted attempts to contact the victim. A warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused on the charges of criminal harassment and failing to comply with a recognizance.

On October 13, the accused was in the custody of the Toronto Police Service on another matter and Peterborough Police were notified. Peterborough Police attended the Toronto area where the accused was placed under arrest on the warrant and transported back to Peterborough.

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.
