Man, 45, charged for hitting cyclist in April 2015

The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP have charged a 45-year-old man from Saugeen Shores in a collision involving a cyclist that happened back in April, 2015.

Police say on April 30, 2015, around 8 a.m., a cyclist was travelling northbound on Sturgeon Point Road between Golf Links Road and Irene Avenue when he was hit from behind by a motor vehicle.  The vehicle did not remain at the scene.  The male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

The vehicle was a full-sized blue pick-up truck, that had a red piece of equipment in the back at the time of the collision.  The vehicle may have damage to the front right corner and the passenger side mirror.

Police say they received new information last month, and George Maxwell has been charged with:

  • Driving While Disqualified c
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident

He was held in custody.
