Three teens have been charged after they were reportedly driving recklessly wearing clown masks and attempting to scare bystanders.
On Friday, October 14 around 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Simcoe Street North and Taunton Road in Oshawa regarding a suspicious vehicle. Witnesses had called police after observing a grey Saturn with three occupants, all of them wearing clown masks, stopping near other cars and pedestrians in a dangerous manner.
Two masked passengers in the car were spotted opening the car doors and attempting to scare others and leaning out the car windows while the car was moving.
Officers stopped the car and charged three occupants under a City of Oshawa bylaw. As well, the driver was charged with Careless Driving. Police did not release the names, but say the male driver and one male passenger were 19 years old. The female passenger was 18.
Since the beginning of this month, DRPS has responded to 31 calls regarding clowns. Police continue to encourage the public to call in any suspicious activity. Those who partake in this activity can face fines under local bylaws and may be opening themselves to criminal charges.
