Two charged with stunt driving

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) clocked two vehicles in separate incidents at more than 70 km/h in excess of the speed limit over the weekend.

Officers clocked a vehicle on Highway 115 at 172 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone Saturday night shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Devon Melanson, 20, of Milton, was charged with stunt driving.  His licence was suspended for seven days and his 2013 Hyundai Veloster was impounded. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario on March 23.

Officers clocked a vehicle on Highway 115 at 170 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone shortly after 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Cailyn Kelly, 18, of Peterborough, was charged with stunt driving. Her licence was suspended for seven days and her 2007 Volkswagen Golf was impounded. She is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario on March 23.

Peterborough County OPP wish to remind motorists although there may be portions of the highway free of snow; the shoulders of the roadway remain snow-covered and icy. In the Province of Ontario, speed limits have been set based on ideal driving conditions. During this time of year winter driving conditions still apply.
