Updated: Deal struck as strike deadline looms at Ventra Plastics
Updated 6 p.m.
A tentative deal was reached late Thursday afternoon ahead of a midnight strike deadline that threatened to affect 500 workers at Ventra Plastics. Details of the deal are not released before it is ratified by both parties.

Original story:
Sources close to the negotiation tell CHEX News that both sides are still trying to hammer out a deal as the strike deadline looms.

Unifor Local 1987 represents around 500 workers at Ventra Plastics. Those workers can legally walk off the job at 12:01 AM Friday.

About a month ago, the union membership here voted overwhelmingly —96% in-favour of strike action if a deal couldn’t be reached. Both sides returned to the table earlier this week in an effort to avoid a strike.

The company, which makes car parts, received 550-thousand dollars from the province in
August, to upgrade robots here which would help save 10 jobs at the plant.
