Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal says the Canadian Canoe Museum board has requested $9 million from the province to help build a new museum.
The proposed museum – to be built on Parks Canada property adjacent to the Peterborough Lift Lock – comes with a price tag of $40M to $50M.
On Tuesday, John Ronson, vice-chair of the museum’s board of directors, said support will needed from all levels of government.
They will be meeting with the premier’s office later this month to discuss the request:
Ronson said if everything goes according to plan, construction on the new museum could begin in fall 2018.
