The province’s Special Investigations Unit is appealing for witnesses after an interaction between Durham Regional Police and a 35-year-old man last week.
The SIU says last Wednesday around 9 p.m., plainclothes officers arrested a 35-year-old man near Celina and Bruce streets in Oshawa. The man was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries “as a result of the interaction.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
“Our investigation will look into how the injuries were sustained. We’ll also look into why police were interacting with the man in the first place,” says Monica Hudon, spokesperson for the SIU.
