A 22-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with stealing a car following a Wednesday night incident.
Police say a man parked his vehicle on George Street south of Hunter street in downtown Peterborough around 8:50 on May 3. He left the vehicle running while he went inside to make a delivery. When he came out, the car was gone.
The next day, Toronto police notified the local service that they had recovered the vehicle in Toronto and arrested a suspect on another matter. The male returned to the Peterborough area where he was arrested at a Towerhill Road address by Peterborough Police.
Mohamed Duad Omar, 22, of Towerhill Road, is charged with theft of motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order.
He is further charged with mischief under $5,000 for damage caused to the cell area at the police station.
