Monsef to host town hall on poverty reduction

Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef will be hosting a town hall meeting later this month focusing on poverty reduction in Canada.

The town hall will be held Wednesday, June 28 from 2:30 p.m to 5 p.m. at Mark Street United Church at 90 Hunter St.

Monsef, Minister of Status of Women, says the following questions will be discussed at the town hall:

  • How can the Government of Canada align its Poverty Reduction Strategy so that it supports existing efforts by provinces, territories, municipalities and communities?
  • What are some initiatives/innovations in Canada or elsewhere that other governments, community organizations, academia, or businesses have introduced or proposed to effectively reduce poverty?
  • How can the Government encourage an on-going dialogue with other levels of government, community organizations, academia and businesses on its poverty reduction efforts?

Feedback will be compiled into a report to be delivered to Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development, to help the federal government develop a nationwide Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Participants are asked to register in advance online at MaryamMonsef.ca/events, or call 705-745-2108, or email Maryam.Monsef@parl.gc.ca.

Should there be any accessibility needs, participants are asked to advise the office at the time of their registration.

For those who are unable to join the meeting in person, feedback is also being collected online at http://esdc-consultations.canada.ca/poverty-reduction-strategy.
