Students injured as school buses collide near Haliburton

Sixteen students from a Toronto school were taken to hospital after two school buses collided just northwest of Haliburton this morning.

Haliburton Fire chief Mike Iles says one bus rear-ended the other as one was making a turn off Highway 118 onto Camp White Pine Crescent around 11 a.m. on Monday morning.

The buses were carrying 51 Don Valley Middle School Grade 8 students who were travelling for a graduation trip to Camp White Pine.

Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police, Haliburton County Paramedic Services and the Dysart et Al Fire Services responded.

There were no serious injuries as officials said students transported to Haliburton Hospital were for precautionary reasons with non-life threatening injuries.

Other students suffered minor scrapes and cuts. OPP closed the section of Highway 118 to investigate.
