Peterborough grandfather wins nearly $250K

A Peterborough grandfather plans to pay off some bills and purchase a new vehicle thanks to his secondary prize in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

Scott McMaster of Peterborough is celebrating after winning $248,798 from the June 3 draw, matching 5 numbers plus the bonus number to win a secondary prize.

The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Mart on Chemong Road in Peterborough.

“I was checking a few tickets on the ticket checker. The third one I scanned said ‘Big Winner,’” stated McMaster at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

“I asked the retailer what would happen if someone had to validate a big win. While she was explaining the process the machine froze – I was completely stunned and shocked that I had won!”

Scott, a 63-year-old widowed grandfather shared the good news with his two sons.

“My youngest said, ‘Why didn’t you tell me to sit down first?’ They were both so happy!”

Scott has other plans for his fortune once he pays off his bills.

“I would also like to plan a vacation and donate to a couple of charities,” he said.
