Probe launched into inmate's death at Warkworth Institution

An investigation has been launched at Warkworth Institution into the death of an inmate who WAS serving a sentence for murder.

Officials say John Kehoe died Sunday. Emergency services were called to the medium-security prison facility and Kehoe was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m.

Kehoe, 69, had been serving an indeterminate sentence since December 14, 1972, for murder, attempted murder, assault and robbery.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death, stated Scott MacPherson, A/Assistant Warden Management Services.

Police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.

No other details have been provided.
