SUV and CP train collide along railway line near Norwood

Peterborough, ON, Canada / CHEX TV

An SUV and freight train collided just before 6 p.m. Tuesday (June 27) just west of Norwood along Asphodel Third Line.

OPP say the vehicle was carrying four people and driving north on the Third Line when the driver reportedly failed to stop and notice the eastbound train.

A T-bone collision occurred and sent the SUV spinning into a ditch.

Rob Maguire says his 18-year-old son was driving the car:

The CP Rail line that runs to Havelock and the roadway was closed while OPP investigated.

CP Rail investigators were also conducting their own investigation.

One male was airlifted to St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto with an apparent fractured pelvis while the other three were taken to the PRHC for precautionary reasons.

Police wish to remind motorists to come to a complete stop at uncontrolled railway crossings and to only proceed when the crossing is clear.
