A man faces impaired driving charges after a pickup truck slammed into a hydro pole and knocked out power to homes and a hotel in Lindsay early Wednesday morning.
Police say just before 1 a.m. the eastbound truck was travelling on Mary Street West when the driver lost control and struck a hydro pole, shearing it off at the base. The Days Inn and 159 homes were left without power.
Officers spoke with the driver at the scene who admitted to drinking prior to the crash. He was arrested and transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service detachment where he provided samples of his breath; registering readings in excess of two times the legal limit.
Larry McDonald, 36, of Lindsay was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceeding the legal limit of alcohol in their blood.
He will appear in court on Thursday, July 27.
Roommate Steals Credit Card – Arrested After Going Through Cars
A 33-year-old Lindsay woman has been arrested after she was found in possession of a stolen credit card when arrested for attempting to steal from a car on Cambridge Street south.
On Monday, June 26, a Victoria Avenue North rooming house resident awoke to find that the contents of her purse had been emptied out onto the kitchen table and $65 cash along with a credit card had been taken. The resident reported this to police and indicated that she suspected her roommate.
At 9:40 pm police were contacted when a Cambridge Street South resident observed a woman going through their sister’s car. The caller followed the suspect until police arrived and arrested her. She was found with the stolen credit card which had been used to make a number of purchases that day.
Naomi Barbara Wright, 33, was charged with possession of a stolen credit card and theft under $5,000. She was held in custody for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
Construction Trailer Broken Into – Tools Stolen
Police are investigating the theft of power tools after someone broke into a Fleetwood Road business on the weekend.
Tools taken included a Milwaukee cordless drill, Milwaukee 18-volt rechargeable batteries, Milwaukee drill set, Bosch hammer drill, a Jackall jack, a Turbotorch mini torch set and a ratchet set. The total value of tools missing was over $1,000. Dually Pick Up Truck Stolen
Kawartha Lakes Police are investigating the theft of a 2001 Chevrolet Dually pick-up truck that occurred sometime over the weekend.
Police were contacted on Tuesday, June 27, when the owner of the truck discovered it missing. It had last been seen on Friday, June 27 at 3:30 p.m., when the owner left it parked at a St. David Stree address.
The truck is described as 2001, Chevrolet 3500 dual axle pick-up truck, blue in colour. It was described as having shiny rims, a black box in the rear and a grey tailgate. It had Ontario licence plate AP86880.
