Police, conservation authority to descend on Rice Lake

Peterborough, ON, Canada / CHEX TV

Visitors to the Rice Lake area this weekend will see more officer presence than usual. July 8 and 9, the OPP Marine Unit and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) will be on the water to educate and enforce water safety and fishing statutes.

“Most vessel-related drownings occur in small open powerboats and non-motorized such as canoes or similar vessels,” police said in a media release Friday.

According to the MNRF, everyone has a part to play to keep the fisheries healthy and sustainable.
