Ottawa failing First Nations education, child welfare advocate says

MONCTON, N.B. – A child welfare advocate says she believes the federal government is failing First Nations when it comes to education.

Cindy Blackstock made the comments today at a special session on education at a meeting of the Assembly of First Nations in Moncton, N.B.

She says all children regardless of their ethnicity deserve clean and safe schools that deliver quality education.

But she says that’s not the case for aboriginal children.

Peter Penashue (Pen-ASH’-way), the federal minister of intergovernmental affairs, says Ottawa recognizes there is a problem with education and is making the issue a priority.
