Detour Gold breaks ground on regional office to support its gold mine

TORONTO – Detour Gold has started construction on a new regional office in Cochrane, Ont., as part of a $1.3-billion investment in the area to build a new gold mine.

The mine is expected to help create a skilled labour force and increase employment opportunities in the north.

The provincial government is investing $3.7 million in the training program, as part of a plan announced in this year’s budget.

There are about 1,000 workers currently on site building the mine, which will employ 500 people when it begins production.

The mine project is also supported by Mamo-Nuskomitowin, Muskegowuk Council and Wabun Training and Employment Services.

Production is set to begin in 2013.
