Damage is estimated at $15,000 following a fire last night on Dalhousie Street. Residents of the home had reported an unknown odor and a haze of smoke and met Peterborough firefighters outside the building. Entering the home, firefighters found a mattress on fire in a bedroom and the fire spreading into a wall. They quickly extinguished the blaze and threw the charred mattress outside. There were working smoke detectors in the building and there were no injuries. Firefighters believe the fire was started by a pinched extension cord under the mattress.
