| Newswatch Staff Profiles John Blake Senior Feature Editor John Blake began his broadcasting career at CHFI Radio in Toronto, and soon found out that "news" would be his chosen field. He caught the eye of news director Bob Durant, and others in the newsroom, like Paul DeCourcey, who is still on the air on 680 News.
John worked as a news writer and public affairs show host for two years, but found he wanted to expand his career and be a radio broadcaster.
John was coached by some of the best in the business. Ken Shaw, now the main news anchor at CFTO Television, worked in the CHFI newsroom at that time. He was very supportive of John's ambitions. John took these skills to Oshawa, where he was a radio news anchor, reporter, and a public affairs show host and interviewer. Three years later, he and his wife Barb, and new daughter Sara, moved to Peterborough and CHEX - again for a radio career, but television "just happened".
John was asked to continue reporting for television, and perfected his video editing skills. He then returned to the air with a television news feature called "Local Heroes". These are stories about people who could go out of their way to help others, without asking for anything in return. The segments were broadcast Tuesday evenings during Newswatch at 6. Visit the Local Heroes Classics, and the Healthwatch webpages to view John's segments.
John, his wife Barb, and daughters, Sara and Caryn, have lived in Peterborough since 1984, and say it's "The best place to raise a family". |
