Peterborough police briefs: Officer assaulted, cruiser damaged

A 39-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a police officer was assaulted and a police cruiser damaged during a Wednesday evening incident.

On February 1, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police attended a Peterborough residence regarding a verbal dispute between the accused and a female whom he knows. During the dispute it was reported that the accused had ripped the security system keypad off the woman’s wall.

Police say when they tried to talk to the individual, an officer was assaulted. The cruiser’s antenna was damaged as officers attempted to place a suspect inside it.

Gerald Frederick Ellis, 39, of Brock Street, is charged with two counts each of assaulting a police officer and breaking probation.

He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 2.


Man injured by knife in domestic incident

A 23-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated assault following a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning at a Peterborough home.

When police responded to a report of a man hurt they found him with a knife wound. Through their investigation, officers learned he had been injured with the knife by another person in the home. The man was treated and released from hospital.


Police arrested the accused at the residence where she was charged with aggravated assault.

She was held in custody and appeared in court on Jan. 31.



Argument leads to broken guitar, assault

An argument between 22-year-old Peterborough man and a woman in her 20s reportedly became heated to the point that one of the parties damaged the other’s guitar and assaulted the victim.

A man was arrested at the scene and charged with mischief and domestic assault. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on February 23, 2017.



Police nab convenience-store robber 

A 25-year-old Peterborough man has been charged following a break-in at a George Street North convenience store.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on February 2, police received a 9-1-1 call regarding a break and enter in progress at the story. Officers arrested a man outside the store.


William Jeffery Dougherty, 25, of no fixed address, Peterborough, is charged with break and enter and two counts of breaking probation.

He was held in custody and is scheduled for court Feb. 2.
